The Valley Christian Trojans had their home opener against the ALA West Foothills football team last Friday - there wasn't an open seat in the house. The boys were excited to get their first win, protect their home field and fight their hardest to get the win.
The Trojans came out of the gate with a slow start, missing a 33 yard field goal, but the aggressiveness started to pick up.
The Trojan defense held strong helping
Will Bastian intercept ALA's quarterback, leading to a 17 yard touchdown in the next play. Senior
Jared Jentgen then intercepted another pass against the ALA offense, but the Trojans lost the ball in the end zone and were forced to punt. This, along with a missed 50 yard field goal, left the score at 7-0 at the end of the first half.
After a halftime pep talk the Trojans came out strong and ready to fight.
In back to back possessions
Hunter Heeringa hit
Ethan Heinrich then
Adam Bradford, bringing the score 20-0. An interception by
Christian Bell put the Trojans on the Guardians 5 yard line.
Ethan Tovar then carried it, putting the score at 26-0. This, along with the defense shutting out ALA's offense, ultimately sealed the win for the Trojans.
Senior
Ethan Tovar says "We started off slow but the line started to open up holes for me. We still need to work on finishing drives, but we came a long way after how we played last week."
Senior
Ethan Heinrich after the game said "The whole team stepped up on both sides of the ball and played really well. Going into the game I knew this was a must win and I knew my team felt the same way."
After a difficult first game, the Trojans showed their true colors and came out to defend their home field. They are ready to put up the same fight against ACP at the NAU dome, Saturday the 3
