Personal Information:
Coach Mehlhorn graduated from Valley in 2004. While he was a student he ran cross country and track and field for the Trojans and also played basketball. After graduating David went on to run track and cross country for Arizona State University from 2004-2009. He started coaching at VC in 2012.
As a student he was a key part of six state championship teams: basketball (‘03), cross country (‘03), track (‘01,’02,‘03,‘04). He has continued this state championship legacy at VC by becoming the first alumni to win a state championship as a coach (‘18 ,'19, '22) as well as coaching eight individual state champions in track and two state champion relays. He also coaches basketball for VC and got to be part of the 2019 and 2022 basketball state championships!
Coach Mehlhorn currently works as a Director of Sales at a software company. He is married to Ali and has three boys: Cameron, James, Aaron. He primarily works with the distance runners, hurdlers, and high jumpers, but oversees the whole track and field program.
“I love coaching at Valley because not only do I have roots here and know the impact it had in my life, but it also provides the opportunity to pour into student athletes athletically and spiritually. I am passionate about helping athletes push themselves past what they thought they were capable of doing and also help them continue to develop into young men and women of character. Winning is also fun.”
