Bio:

Coach Trathen is in his 15^th year coaching. This is his third year as the head coach for the indoor program. Tyler helped lead the Lady Trojans to a State Championship in the fall of 2021, a Semifinal berth in 2022, and State runner ups in 2023. Tyler was recognized as 3A South Central Coach of the Year.

Tyler comes from California where he has coached numerous high school and club teams. He was the setter for his high school team that won his section all 4 years he was a part of the program. He continued his career at King College (Now King University) and moved his position to Libero. Tyler retired from playing when he tore his ACL and moved into coaching at the age of 20. He became a boys Club Director and Girl’s Assistant Director of a California Club. He also coached collegiately for the University of Redlands and a Setter and Libero coach. He continues to be a learner of the game and is always looking for ways to improve his coaching. He is very passionate about teaching critical techniques & motor development skills. Coach Trathen has won numerous tournaments, League Championships, and State Championships.

Coach Trathen is a faculty on Valley Christian Schools’ High School Campus as a Math Teacher. His goal as a teacher is to make Math fun and not a chore. In his down time, he loves to play with his Goldendoodle (Maverick) and hike. He likes to also play volleyball, golf, and pickleball. Tyler is Married to his beautiful wife and VCS Alumni Ashley (’09) and together they have a beautiful daughter named Stevie Rose.
