Haagsma and Coach Trathen first approached me to take on the Head Coaching responsibilities for the new boys program, I was not prepared for the joy I would find in teaching a new sport to these young men. Volleyball has been a passion of mine for quite some time and I am excited to be sharing my love for the game.” This season the boys team adopted the “Be A Man (B.A.M.)” theme based on 1 Corinthians 16:13-14, “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, [Be A Man], be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” “We only have a varsity team this year and hope to expand the program to include a JV team in the next few years. This year’s team has seventeen young men who range widely in age and ability. However, my seven seniors (Womack, Henry, Jentgen, I. Liimatta, L. Morton, Wegenke and Tammany) are in the process of developing a fantastic team culture provding support and encouragement for the younger players. I am impressed by the team’s ability to learn the physical aspects of the game quickly, but more importantly, the development of “Volleyball IQ” and understanding the game at a higher level.”
