Marlin Broek was a long time coach and athletic director at Valley Christian Schools. From the founding of the school in 1982 to his departure in 2012, Mr. Broek set the foundation for the excellence of the VCS Athletics Department. After stepping away from VCS he has continued to serve athletics in the valley for over 10 years with the AIA. 

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • First employee hired by VCS
  • Boys Basketball Coach 15 years from 1982-1997 with a record of 156-164 (.488)
  • Golf Coach with 1 state title (2004)
  • Chandler Athletics Hall of Fame – Inducted 2017
  • VCHS Athletic Director from 1982-2015
  • Under his leadership as Athletic director Valley Christian
    • Joined the AIA
    • Earned 3 National Coaches of the Year Awards
    • National Record for Most Consecutive Girl Track & Field Championships
    • Girls Volleyball ranked #5 Nationally
    • Don Stone Award Excellence x 7
    • AIA Director’s Award - 2004
    • Gatorade Player of the Year (x1)

1982-83 Started Basketball, Volleyball
1983-84 Added Boys Soccer, Girls Basketball, Cheer
1985-86 Added Baseball
1986-87 Joined AIA as an associate member
added Boys and Girls Track & Field
1987-88 Full membership in AIA
Added Football
First Region Championship in Boys Track & Field
1988-89 Added Boys & Girls Cross Country
First State Championship in Track & Field
1989-90 Joined 2A Conference (Old Central Region)
1990-91     Boys Track & field wins State
Start 21 year streak of winning one team state title each year
1997     Retired from Boys Basketball with 156 career wins (alas, no championship)
VCHS won first of 5 Don F. Stone awards for overall excellence
1998 VCHS won Tony Komadina award for advancement of Girls Sports
by 2000     added Wrestling, Golf, Girls Soccer, Softball (permanently)
2003 VC joined PVWH program
2005 golf team gave Marlin first State title as a coach
Soon after added Boys and Girls Swim, bring total to 17 sports at VCHS (14 have won State Titles)
2009-10 VCHS wins 6 State Championships in that school year
2011        Retires as Athletic Director with 59 State Championships, 25 State Runner-ups, 113 Region or Section Titles
